Dear Mr. President,
I am writing this letter to try and get you to see how your policies have hurt me, my family and the other citizens in America like me. Thank you for your time and I pray that you will at least read this letter in it’s entirety, before you dismiss the entire thing.
We live on an income of less than $15,000.00 a year. My mother is 75 and had hoped to live out her “golden years” like she had always heard about. The “golden years” of ones life is suppose to be lived out in comfort, with your home paid for, your vehicle paid for, your bills paid on time, trips to the grocery store when you need something, hopefully not much medicine, but if you need medicine, then you have the money you need or the insurance coverage you need when and if you have to go the the doctor for whatever comes up. She asked me the other day, why after living her whole life looking forward to her “golden years”, she is being denied that one simple pleasure. I told her I couldn’t answer that, but if there was anything I could do differently to make that happen for her, I sure would. Mother has developed numerous health problems over the past 10 years and in the past year, has gotten to the point where she can’t walk at all, so she is in a wheel chair now. This is something she fought VERY hard against. She refused to give up struggling to walk until it became so obvious she could do nothing else. She is just like millions of other seniors in this country, I’m sure. My point in telling you all of this is to show you, all of these people deserve food, health care and deserve the right not to have to worry whether they will have enough money to pay to keep their utilities on, or buy the medicine they need. They also deserve to be able to get all of the medicine they need and not be forced to chose which one they will get filled this month and which one they can do without. That, in my mother’s situation, is sentencing her to death. All of her medications are vital to her well being and she should not be forced to make the choice of which ones she will do without because she doesn’t have the money to get it.
I have just read another report where the seniors will be denied yet another cost of living increase this coming year all thanks to the way Social Security is related to the CPI and the way it is figured. As all of you in DC know this is the THIRD year that seniors and veterans have to struggle with the pitiful monthly amount of money they are so thankful to receive, while the costs of everything we have to purchase is rising daily because of the regulatory policies implemented by your administration. You and everyone in your administration claim to want to help the seniors and all those that are less fortunate than yourselves. IF this is truly the case, then why are you punishing these people with the very policies you, yourself have implemented?
The drastic cuts of $500 Billion to Medicare is very harmful. These cuts are making the cost of medicine skyrocket for every senior. And will force even more to make the life or death decisions of which medicines to leave off. This is also cutting out the home health therapy that hundreds of thousands across the country depend upon. The cuts are also stopping the delivery of oxygen and oxygen equipment to people, like my mother, who have to have this to be able to sleep at night. And I’ve also heard that some people who have to have oxygen 100% of the time are being denied. Is this truly your intention, Mr. President? Surely you realize these people will die without the proper medical treatment they have been receiving. Just because a person is past a certain age, does not mean they are no longer of any use to us as a society. I’m sure you would do anything you possibly could to have your mother, grandmother and grandfather back with you and your family. Well, we all feel the same way about our elderly loved ones too.
I’m sure you have been told by numerous advisors there are thousands of other places of pure waste in the way this government operates. There is one specific place that comes to mind. As you are aware, I’m sure, there is an extravagant housing complex in Taucoma, Washington built by using $225 Million out of Social Security funds. This housing complex houses ONLY ILLEGAL immigrants from all different nations. They have their own school, FREE hospital, FREE medical clinic, lawn care, and maintenance department. THIS is utterly OUTRAGEOUS! To take money reserved for our seniors, disabled and handicapped and just give it to hundreds of illegal immigrants is absolutely insulting. The taxpayers of this country paid in those Social Security funds in good faith that our government was using the money to take care of our seniors, NOT a bunch of people who refuse to bother with the proper channels to enter this great nation! The cost of this one housing project, by itself, would have put back at least half of the cuts made to Medicare. And there are Billions being wasted every day through fraud that can be stopped and other wasteful programs.
I also wanted to try and explain to you as simply as I know how, about how we manage our household budget. I know that in our government, ya’ll are dealing with trillions of dollars instead of just hundreds of dollars like we deal with, but the principle is the same. When we get our paycheck, we sit down and I make out a list of our bills and the amounts owed for the current month. I take the amount of the check, subtract the amount of bank drafts that will be coming out of the bank for the current month, then start subtacting the bills, one by one. After all of the bills have been subtracted, that is how much money we have left over to buy groceries, gas and medicine. As with most months for the past 10 to 15 years, there is NEVER enough to go around. We barely have enough to pay our rent, and utilities, much less put gas in the car or buy groceries. Of course, I understand you and your family have never had to do this type of budgeting before, because you and Michelle were lawyers before you got in the White House, and you don’t have to worry about anything for sure now. The American taxpayers are footing the bill for everything now. You keep telling it’s time for everyone to make “sacrifices” but do you honestly know exactly what that means, sir? I’m beginning to believe you don’t.
You also keep calling for everyone to “pay their fair share”, Mr. President. And I’m really curious to know exactly what you mean by that. Does that mean you don’t think the American taxpayers are paying enough in taxes? I don’t understand how that can be, we have the highest tax rate in the world. It doesn’t make sense that we can pay much more than we already are. You keep mentioning all of the corporate or big business owners flying around in their jets, but you are doing the same thing. You are now the head of the biggest most powerful corporation in the entire world, and look at you, have you or Michelle curbed your travels any at all to help save the taxpayers any money? I don’t think so. In fact, since you have announced your re-election bid, you are flying even more in Air Force One, at an extravagant amount of money for every trip…..paid for by the American taxpayers, yet again!! And the First Lady, surely hasn’t slowed up on any of the ‘vacations’ she and her entourage have taken in the past two and a half years either, even though the rest of us have been living in a recession for the past 3 almost 4 years.
I know you are the President and you have the right to do whatever you please. But you could show a LOT more compassion for what us regular people are going through, even though you, yourself have never had to live like we do.
You keep talking about taxing “the rich”, the people who make over $250,000.00 a year. But what you seemingly don’t care about is the majoroity of those people are the small business owners, who make up the largest majority, 70% of our GDP. By taxing them you will be adding even more to what we in the lowest brackets have to pay. By the time you add all of the taxes to a product from it’s origin to the final taxes in the store where it is purchased, these taxes make the products extremely expensive and getting more so everyday with the increased fuel costs rising every day!
The Democrats have for the past 50 years or so, been the party of “let us help you”, “we are here to help you”. Well, if this is really true, ALL of you will stop and think about what the policies you have implemented over the past 50 years have actually done to the people of this nation. I’m certainly no economist, but I do know that once you reach your credit limit or you spend all of the money you have coming in, you just don’t start printing more money or raise your credit limit instead of paying off some of the debt you have accumulated! That is just common sense, and I’m positive that every member of Congress manages their finances the same way.
It’s time that common sense return to the halls of the White House and the halls of our Capitol building. There can be NO more raising of the debt ceiling…..PERIOD!! We citizens have been screaming this as loudly as we possibly can. Start CUTTING the WASTEFUL spending, cut out the programs that are of no use, like the testing of shrimp on a treadmill…..really?? and there are thousands of other programs just like the shrimp study that can wait until our financial house is back in order once gain.
I implore you PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND BALANCE this enormous budget on the backs of our veterans, active military OR on our already stressed to the brink seniors, disabled and handicapped. We, Americans, are suppose to be the most compassionate people in the world and if this is true, then why are we as a nation showing the world how uncompassionate we are to our own seniors, veterans and military families and even the troops who are risking their lives daily to keep us all safe? This is NOT something that should even be up for debate. Our military should not have to worry whether they will be fighting, in the THREE wars we are involved in, with the proper equipment. Neither should they be having to put scraps of metal together to make their vehicles safe to travel in. The way our government treats our military is just unconscionable! Our brave military forces have enough to worry about everyday with the enemies they face, without having to worry whether they are getting their much needed paychecks and whether their families will be receiving the checks they so desperately need.
Come on, Mr. President, it’s time for you to realize that the majority of the American people have thoroughly refused your “transformation” tactics to turn this nation into something other than what it has been since its founding. You have become the laughing-stock of the entire world. Every other world leader has started calling you and America names. If you continue to refuse to move to the center to govern the rest of your term, you will surely be defeated in Novemeber 2012. I’m not really sure you could win again, even if you did. You, sir, have increased our national debt more than any other President in our two hundred year plus history and I for one, am not ready to forget that fact. I also know there are millions of other people who feel exactly the same way I do. Your policies are the exact reason the Tea Party members, like me and my mother are speaking out for the first time in our lives. Thank you for making us find our political voices. If it weren’t for you, sir, there would not have been the political awakening in this nation that has happened since 2004.
Though we all have politically different points of view, we are all still Americans and should be able to come to an agreement that is best for this nation. I’ve heard you say over the past 8 weeks that it’s time for the partisan politics to stop, well YOU are the leader of this country, so it’s up to YOU, sir, to put a stop the bickering and name calling IF you truly want it to stop. Your party will follow your lead.
I pray for your safety, and for the one true God Almighty to impart His wisdom and discernment to you, for the betterment of this great nation and it’s people!
