I just read an article over at Cato@Liberty.org entitled “Budget Deal Doesn’t Cut Spending”. Read it for your self and see if you will leave the page as mad as I am about: 1)We have been “duped again”. Promised ginormous cuts only to have NO cuts at ALL. 2)Told there would be cuts that match the increase in spending…..NOT TRUE. 3)The author of this piece made a statement about our “entitlement” recipients, that is so offensive this man should be made to apologize to every elderly person and veteran receiving Social Security or Medicare!
“Old folks will continue to gorge themselves on inflated benefits paid for by young families and future generations.” ~Chris Edwards
According to Chris Edwards, the “old folks” aren’t entitled to receive any of the benefits they have paid into the government for the past 50 years! Well, Chris, I have a question for you, IF the “old folks” aren’t entitled to receive their benefits, whom are you proposing receives those benefits? YOU? Or did you have someone else in mind? Or, are the benefits that these millions of “old folks” paid in for their entire working lifetimes, the funds that are supposed to be used for the ‘wealth redistribution’ our esteemed leader continually talks about?
You see, Chris, I along with millions of other people realize that these people have been promised they would be supported in their retirement years by their government, because those trillions of dollars paid into the Social Security Fund by these “old folks” were suppose to be locked into an interest bearing account and that account was supposed to be where the “old folks” checks would be written out of. But our illustrious politicians, over the past two decades or more, have stolen those funds and ‘appropriated’ them to pay for their pet projects or earmarks, or out-and-out bribes!
Not every recipient of Social Security and Medicare is a worthless piece of human flesh as you insinuated. Our elderly have been told since the Social Security program was implemented that this would subsidize their retirement money, but many have lived at or below the poverty level all of their life and have no retirement money to live on so their Social Security checks are all they have to survive on. And believe me, those checks in no way shape or form are large enough to “gore themselves on”! Most recipients even with these Social Security checks have to continue to work, IF the recipient is physically able to do so, just so they can have enough to pay their bills and buy their medications they need each month.
I for one, am sick to death of people like you belittling the recipients of Social Security like they are the modern-day lepers! We are all created equal in God’s eyes and just because one group of citizens is no longer physically able to get out and work to survive, we as a Nation should not deny them the benefits they have accumulated over the past 50 or so years. It is not their fault any more than it is your or my fault that our politicians have mismanaged the Social Security program to the brink of bankruptcy. Every politician should be made to take from their retirement, pension, salary and pay back every penny that was stolen from the Social Security account.
I do agree there are reforms that need to be made to this program because of all the fraud and waste, but with millions of Americans depending upon this program for their very survival, we, as humanitarians, can not just say to them, “either work, or you won’t eat”. That is just preposterous to even insinuate such a thing. I knew the entire time I was working, that when I reached retirement age at 62 or 65, more than likely Social Security would not be there for me to count on. But the people who have already reached that age and beyond do not need to be punished for the unscrupulous back-door dealings of the elected representatives in Washington, DC. Those elected representatives should be held accountable for the theft of the taxpayers money!
In my opinion, Chris Edwards, you owe every elderly person and military veteran in this country an apology! As with most ‘journalists’ in today’s market, I will not hold my breath until I see one! Shame on you Chris Edwards and all the others in this nation who feel the same way about our elderly. Sounds like you and the thousands of others like you, as John Wayne once said, “My apologies, ma’am. A slight negligence in his upbringing!” as he knocked his disrespectful son off of his horse for disrespectfully referring to an Indian woman as a “squaw” (from the movie, Cahill, US Marshall) Seems to me, Chris, maybe you also have had a ‘slight negligence’ in your upbringing to be so disrespectful of your elders too!
Until next time, may God’s peace, wisdom and discernment fill you all!
