As I sit here watching the debate go back and forth on whether or not to raise the debt ceiling, I wonder why we, as American citizens, have allowed things to get this messed up. It baffles me how us ordinary people got so apathetic towards our government, that we, or at least I did, just trusted that the people elected in Washington in the various offices were doing their jobs to the best of their abilities and were naturally putting the best welfare of the people before anything else. Boy have we been snookered!! These dang politicians have known for decades that the majority of the American people were just like I use to be and either didn’t bother to vote, or just didnt’ want to vote, or only did their duty and went down the list marking names, not really caring who won or lost or where the candidates stood on the different issues. They voted and that was all that mattered, they had done their civic duty! THAT’S exactly how this country has gotten in the shape we find ourselves today. Well, all of that is slowly changing and the politicians in DC are slowly realizing it, some are a little slower than others, and I believe it’s keeping many of them up nights worried about what their next move is gonna be. Will they try and please the people back home so they can get re-elected for another term, or will they try and please the corporations that are paying the lobbyists that hound them day and night, after all the corporations are the ones holding the checkbook for that next election! I don’t know a lot about how our government works, but I know for years now the government in the US has been in bed with the major corporations and have continued to push the small businesses and citizens of this country further and further away from the negotiating table that has been going on in Washington.
Oh these times, they are a-changing and I say it’s about darn time! THANK GOD for the Tea Party and whoever it was that started this movement. I’ve heard so many names out there, til I’m reluctant to put a name in this post because I don’t want to put the wrong one. All I know is if it weren’t for the millions of Americans that went to Washington and have gathered in city after city across this nation for the past 3 years, we wouldn’t even have the hope that we have now that things are starting to turn around a little at a time. I guess we will find out within the next week or so whether or not we will need to make another trip to Washington to let our elected officials once again see that we mean business when we say we are tired of the spending and we want no more taxes and that we want devastatingly drastic budget cuts. Every program that has been put in place over the past 3 years has not helped the economy or the people of this country one little iota and with Obama promising every dang country he goes into here lately the US will give them billions in “aid” and Hillary Clinton doing the same dang thing, it’s just getting worse and worse.
American USE to be able to give financial help where ever the help was needed, but now it’s time for our elected leaders to just SHUT UP and quit promising bailouts to countries that have mismanaged their affairs as poorly as we have here in this country. IF and when our government here in America ever regains solid financial standing, THEN maybe we can start some of these programs back up again. And before I get a lot of comments about the poor starving children in the Sudan or where ever it might be, take a good hard look at where a LOT of the US taxpayer money is given away and you will find a LARGE portion of the foreign aid goes to countries that no matter how much we give them or for how many years we have been giving this money to them, their citizens are still starving and in dire need of medical care. Shoot we have millions of folks just like that here in the good ole US of A, but do they get any attention on the evening news broadcasts? If they do, I certainly haven’t seen any here lately. But I have seen the poor little starving children in Haitti, Ethiopia, the Sudan or Kenya or even the poor refugees that are being displaced by the civil wars in the Middle Eastern countries on several evening news broadcasts. After you see how much money these countries are getting from the US taxpayers, then take a look at how the leaders of these countries live, whether they are Kings, Presidents, dictators, or just tribal leaders. I dare you to find at least one that is not shamefully wealthy and just like our leaders here in America, they want for nothing and the majority of them live the lives they do because of the American taxpayers. The money isn’t getting spread out in those countries to help the poor, like the US taxpayers are being told that it is, the money is being funneled into the pockets and bank accounts of these wealthy leaders. Hosni Mubarack and Gaddafi are proof! And I’m sure there are hundreds of “leaders” just like this that the US taxpayer has NO idea they even exist but these people get monthly checks from our government on the pretense that they are providing our government with a service of some sort. This could be stopped immediately. If these countries can’t be our ally without us having to PAY them to be, then leave them the heck alone. I know, I know, the old addage….I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine, is in play with these countries and that’s fine and dandy IF we had the money and were financially sound enough to continue to do this, but right now we ARE NOT, so why not save all of that money and reduce our debt so the credit limit won’t have to be raised for now and cut even more spending than that. I’ve heard countless economists on TV in these past few weeks stating the debt ceiling does NOT have to be raised, there ARE enough places that could be cut, without even mentioning Social Security, Medicare and our military benefits, that would more than give the government breathing room until a more permanent solution can be brokered. But I get the impression from the people in DC, that are suppose to be representing us, that they don’t want to do what is right, they don’t want to cut all the wasteful spending, they don’t want to change the way they handle “their affairs” there in DC…..that’s what all of this boils down to, I believe. They want to be able to continue to do business the way they have always done, spend more than they have, and just go to the people and say we need more and nobody would stand up and refuse and nobody would say “no, you have to cut something out” and it still looks like it’s going to end up being the same old way…….at least until those of us out here in the trenches can get enough people awake to realize that things don’t have to be this way any more. Things can be different and can be changed into the way things use to be. Where a hard days work got you a fair days wages and by doing that, you spent more when you went to the store and then by spending more, the businesses hired more workers and the more workers that are hired, the more taxes were paid into the government coffers and everything ended up being paid for as it was needed in the government accounting records. That’s the way we can get it once again, but it’s gonna take us MAKING the people in Washington to listen to what we are screaming at them, from the elected representatives, senators up to the President, and especially the President! From every speech I’ve seen from him, he’s still trying to convince us all that we DO want the policies he’s been pushing. He’s not even trying to acknowledge that he has been wrong and we are fed up with his lies. Well, this old mama has a few words for him, but I wouldn’t want to soil this paper by saying them. It’s just as I’ve heard my whole life, “if you don’t have nothing nice to say, don’t say nothing at all” and that’s where I’m gonna leave off talking about Mr. Obama.
If these leaders don’t start seriously working on getting our debt under control, our credit rating in this Nation is going to be downgraded anyway! With the debt only getting higher and higher and the world can even see there is no serious negotiations going on to cut any of the spending, they see what we citizens see, there’s no way the US will be able to pay this exhorbitant amount of money back. There’s just no way. So I believe the credit rating will eventually be downgraded anyway whether a new debt limit is raised or not. Maybe, just maybe IF we don’t raise it, then they will see we are at least trying to do something to get all of this madness stopped before we implode, but it doesn’t look probable, to me.
Hopefully, common sense will one day rule our government. Until that day we are just forced to do the best we can with what we have to work with and pray for God’s wisdom to be imparted to the leaders who are willing to listen to Him! Governor Mike Huckabee said on a show either this morning or yesterday morning, that with the President acting as immature and leaderless in these negotiations as he has during this whole debacle, that is he is like a “jockey that has carried a stick horse to ride in the Kentucky Derby” and that’s exactly how it looks to all of us that tried to tell everybody before-hand that this man did NOT have the capability or mental fortitude to lead this Nation. I believe the President has just proved all of us to be right!
God BLESS until next time.
